Disability Pride Month is a time to celebrate the strength, creativity, and identity of disabled people.
Pride can come from self-acceptance, overcoming challenges, or connection to the disabled community—but there’s no one right way to experience it. This month encourages open, positive conversations about disability and challenges harmful stereotypes and systemic ableism. It's also a reminder that accessibility is everyone’s responsibility. The Disability Pride flag reflects this: with a black background for barriers, and vibrant diagonal stripes symbolising different disabilities—physical (red), neurodivergent (gold), invisible (white), emotional (blue), and sensory (green). Together, these colours represent unity and resilience.
The Open Polytechnic Library holds many disability resources. Here's a taste.
And if you identify as having a disability, chronic medical condition or neurodiversity, Open Polytechnic is here for you.
